Registered Clinical Counselling and Psychotherapy
These two terms are effectively interchangeable, that is, they represent the same services. Masters and PhD level professionals of related disciplines (e.g, Psychology, Counselling, Child and Youth Care, Social Work) who practice direct therapy and are registered with (and regulated by) a professional association, such as the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, can offer one or both of these services. The main difference tends to be the focus of clinical services on standardized assessments and strategic intervention adherent to evidence-based practice. Whereas, psychotherapy tends to employ one or more theoretical perspectives and approaches. I have been a clinician and a therapist for many years, during which I have provided both clinical and psychotherapeutic services.
Nature-based Therapy
Nature-based therapy has a wide range of contexts, approaches and applications. I invite you to think about incorporating nature into the therapeutic process. This can mean going for a walk in a park or taking time to explore the natural surroundings in an engaged and mindful way. Integral to this experience is the awareness of self in connection to nature.
Walk-and-talk. This is just as it sounds… and a little more: a therapeutic process that involves movement, literally and figuratively. Movement supports momentum and can sustain a sense of change and progress over time. As simple as it is, a walk can offer paced (controlled) activation of body and nervous system, a forward orientation of the mind, as well as a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, doing a structured activity together can lessen the anxiety that can be present naturally when meeting a counsellor for the first time or opening up about a potentially difficult topic.
Nature-based Play Therapy. Play therapy can take on many forms and because of its versatility, it is not just for kids. Play may look differently for each of us and it is often different for children and adults, but we all play! Nature-based play explores the natural environment in a way that generates a sense of loosening of rigid boundaries and stokes the creative fires within.

Therapy responsive to your needs
In the same way that each seedling needs a certain composition of soil and process of nurture to succeed, so do each of us. We are all unique in where we come from and where we are headed. Hence, it makes sense that there is no “one fits all” method of facilitating growth and change. We will work together to figure out what works for you.

Clinical Supervision
I have over 20 years of experience providing clinical and psychotherapeutic services, working in hospitals, community psychiatric clinics, with non-profit agencies and in schools. This includes therapy with folks of diverse intersecting identities with experiences of mental illness, addiction and trauma.
Over the course of my career, I have provided direct supervision to BA and MA students completing practicum and internship programs, in 1:1 and in reflective group formats.
My approach to supervision mirrors my therapeutic approach. It is collaborative, integrative and process-oriented. It is tailored to the unique needs of the individual or group and it is attuned to the relationship between us.
